Water Conservation

The objective of this Water District program is to build public support and participation in conservation efforts applicable to a rural desert lifestyle.  By providing clear, credible facts on the impact of water consumption figures for home, yard, barn, and livestock uses across the entire community, the program hopes to ease public acceptance of the need for conservation measures - particularly in basins designated as having limited amounts of groundwater.

Television, radio, and print media outlets will be used for discussion and distribution of conservation techniques and approaches.  The youth of our communities will be invited to engage in environmental awareness programs conducted by educational specialists at nearby National Parks and Wildlife Refuges.

Landscaping designs based on low water use plants and trees will be promoted through the UNR Cooperative Extension sites, with support encouraged from local nurseries and retail stores.
